In what ways are your interpretive processes shaped by your intellectual, ideological, and political commitments?
I am early in my research, so it is hard for me to say what “informed” my research, but I can think through what are likely aspects that influence my thinking and perspective. Having grown up in Silicon Valley, I have been heavily involved and attentive to trends in technology. This being one industry I pay an excessive amount to which will inform how I see or notice trends. Similar to how Erickson’s music undergraduate degree informed his research, I believe my undergraduate degree in sociology will provide a substantial amount of influence on my perspective. My sociology and technology backgrounds come together with my first master’s degree in global communications from a university in Japan which certainly changes my perspective and how I look at culture and organizations.
